Some early review blurbs (Spoiler safe I promise they reveal nothing) including gushing praise for Ledger's portrayal as The Joker. I had my reservations about the makeup they were using but I have to say, from the trailers and clips Ive seen, he seems to have fully captured the maniacal energy and 100 proof crazy that the Joker is supposed to be. I know many of you love Nicholson in this role but as I said before, he just never got it quite right. Im talking blow up a bus load of kids cause it seems fun kind of nuts.

Jack got the role perfectly right actually. The role Ledger is playing and the role Nicholson played are two COMPLETELY different roles. You can't compare them.

One piece of info for everyone seeing this on IMAX.

There are 2 differnt versions being shown at the IMAX, the normal one and one called the IMAX Experience. The second has several scenes shot specifically with IMAX cameras and stuff (dunno what exactly that means, but prolly involved 3d glasses). So make sure you know which one you are purchasing for.

Tickets in Denver sold out last weekend, so we are hitting the Sunday showing instead.

Also I got to see 300 down in Sydney, which has the biggest movie screen in the world (basically the biggest IMAX of them all), and there were like 10 ppl there, it was fucking pimp.

Really caught what i love about batman and what the Joker stood for. That whole reason that the joker wont kill batman and batman wont kill him is perfectly played out in this movie. Now my only complaint is that we wont have the same Joker if another movie is ever made.

Jack has his own spot light as the original joker that cant be touched or compared.
Ledger created a new joker for this generation of Batman fans that sadly we wont see again.

Just saw it and it was pretty damned awesome, way way better and deeper than Iron Man or any other superhero movie could ever be. However, a few critiques:

- the chick who played Rachel was ugly as fuck, although her acting was pretty decent.
- the whole sonar icanseeeverythingintheworld thing was a bit too much.
- either batman needs a cough-drop BAD or Bale needs to quit overdoing it.

Overall, I think Ledger and Eckhart stole the show. Ledger was mesmerizing to watch, I loved every second he was on the screen. What a damned shame we will never be able to see him again. Two-face was great and I was happy to see he got his well-deserved screen time. Gary Oldman was solid as well. The fights were great, old fashioned beat-downs with no kung fu or matrix bullshit.

I saw it on the regular screen, but will be going again next week for IMAX.

If you didn't see the movie in IMAX go buy tickets immediately and watch it. That shit was fucking amazing.

I agree on the cough drop. It was cool as fuck in Begins when he was yelling at that fat corrupt cop and I was hoping they would bring that back in this movie but they over did it a LITTLE. But honestly the only reason I would critique this movie would be to complain that it came so close to being my favorite action movie ever.

Heath Ledger.....like, some of the most amazing acting. He seemed so alive and I got so lost in the character enough that it took me 10 mins after the movie to realize that there wont be another movie with him as the joker.

Great movie though, incredibly deep and captured the Batman/Joker dynamic to a tee. Dyerfaggot hit it on the head, Eckhart and Ledger definitely had the standout performances in the film, but everyone carried their weight quite well. Took my nephews and niece to it today. I can't believe how good this fucking movie was. I thought it was going to be just a really good super hero movie but holy shit, it was way more than that.

Every time Joker was on screen it was pure gold. The trick with the pencil, at least 20 people including myself yelled "HOLY FUCK". My nephew thought it was the most badass thing he's ever seen in his life and it probably was. That shit came out of no where.

The story was amazing, nothing like the other Batmans. I was never bored and waiting for something to happen. It seemed something was always happening. I couldn't believe that we got there for a 1pm showing and got out at 3:30pm. It was 3 1/2 of pure enjoyment.

Jack's Joker was another take on the character compared to Ledger's but I like Ledger's way more. Darker, more fucked up, and everything he did was controlled chaos.

I'll be seeing this in IMAX next week, for sure. Can't wait to get this on DVD.

I think a Riddler similar to Jigsaw in the Saw series would be an interesting villain...he would torment people with puzzles and cause them to go insane, but not kill them. He would be the Joker but on a micro scale. Rather than mass mayhem he chooses his targets.

kittyciara
07-24-2008, 01:51 PM
See I think a better enemy than the riddler that would be able to make the transition to the dark batman style is Dr. Victor Fries (freeze). His story is so dark already.....If you actually use real science behind his character, his tragic story will carry itself. And for gods sake, most scientists aren't Austrian Body builders....so you fix those things and I think you got a great enemy.

However, Kevin Spacey as The Riddler does sound awesome.

I could see Freeze working but they need to keep it serious. The one-liners in that abortion of a movie were horrible.

Regarding Robin, Bale has stated that he would fight with everything he had to block Robin from coming into the story because he doesn't want his version of Batman to turn into a peice of shit like the other 2 that had Robin. I agree with the man.

Rheign
07-24-2008, 03:45 PM
There is in no way can they add robin to any of the movies and not make it gay. Robin's character is just to whiny and annoying to be portrayed in the movie without making the movie terrible.

I can't really picture who would make a good villain for the next film. I feel like any of the other villains would be really hard to portray as real considering how dark and real these past two films have been.

Imagine how much they could ruin what they have built up if they chose like poison ivy or dr freeze? It would come out worse than how bad SM3 was when they added venom.

I think a Riddler/Scarecrow villain combo would make a decent third film.

kittyciara
07-24-2008, 04:01 PM
well you can't do scarecrow again, that's too much. They did him good, kept him small and a pawn. The only reason dr freeze is so taboo to people is because of fucking schwarzafaggot.....before then he was one of the fan favorites for an enemy. He's a smart guy who uses his knowledge of science to aid him. And his story is so tragic that it fits right in.

I will say this though, the microwave emitter from the first movie was a horrible hole seeing as how it should have blown every person up that it came near...so maybe their science knowledge isn't top notch enough to take on the task and not make it seem silly. The Riddler would be EASY to make annoying though, like watching Ben Stiller in meet the parents and wondering why he's being so stupid. So that makes me scared.

speeking of using freezing technology in weapons.....

I've been thinking about who they could use as the next villain and I'm really coming up short. I just can't see how they can do any better than the joker. If Ledger was still alive, they might be able to do something cool with Harley Quinn, which would probably work out well.

I just can't think of any other batman villain that wouldn't be too cheesy to use. Maybe clayface could work?

RaptorIIC
07-24-2008, 05:35 PM
Freeze would work if they went the path of the animated series and made his entry a tragic and serious one instead of the mad scientist comedy carney path like the original/adam west/shitty movie.

There is a pretty big list to choose from but most aren't well known by most people today. Shit, I didn't know about a lot of these people and I used to read comics when I was younger.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Batman_enemies

Clayface might be interesting but I think Bane would work pretty good. Bane was already used but horribly done and played a minor roll. He wouldn't need CGI to make it work while I don't see Clayface working without it. I have a feeling it would be Sandman from Spider-Man 3 all over again.

One of the reasons Dark Knight was so good was it didn't use a shit load of CGI which is rare these days. Not 100% on Bane's story but I remember reading he really fucked up Batman to the point he was out of commission for a while.

Whoever they do decide to roll with in the next movie, I can honestly say it will not be as good as Dark Knight because Ledger's Joker will not be in it.

K I just finally saw this today.

First I'm just going to say it was an awesome movie. So what I'm going to say does not mean I didn't like it, they're just things I thought would be interesting to get input on.

But here are a couple weird things I thought of *SPOILERS*:

-Bruce drives his lamborghini between an armored truck and a semi to "save" the occupants of the armor truck. So you're telling me if this semi had struck the armored truck it would have killed the passengers, but if it strikes a lamborghini and crushes it up against an armored truck, the passenger is perfectly fine? This seems a little odd to me. It's cool though I'm willing to let it slide, I was just confused how a supercar was more sturdy than an armored transport.

-I thought Bruce said he was going after Rachel when he had to make the choice and the police were saying they were going after Harvey, but it obviously was backwards. Did I miss something? I thought maybe the Joker deliberately told him the addresses backwards, but I don't remember anything confirming that. Like Bruce could have mentioned it later in his tragic monologue to Alfred.

Please input. Great movie.

Joker did that on purpose because he is a sick fuck. He knew Batman would go for the girl and the cops would go after Harvey so he played them both by giving them wrong addresses.

Not sure about the whole car thing but then again Batman does a 180 off a fucking wall like it was nothing. It's a movie ;)

This is correct.

As for him not mentioning it...He doesn't seem the type to explain himself to others. I mean, I don't think he'd really care at that point whether Alfred knew he was going for Rachael or intentionally went for Dent, because it wouldn't change what had happened & he was more concerned about getting The Joker. Just my take on the character.

failure for it taking you so long to see it Greta... haha

Common misconception Greta. Just because a truck is armored it does not magically become semi proof. Bruce saved a lot of lives in his Lamborghini, which are designed to be semi proof, just look at its lightweight fiber-glass exterior.

I watched it last night.. (In IMAX)

I thought it owned..

My question is.. is Two Face really dead? I mean, I can't really tell from the movie if he actually is dead or not.. I mean he fell off a building and landed there.. but... you never know with these crazy movies...

Oh, and Greta, great point about the Lamborghini... that was total BS. They should have had him run into it knocking it off course or somthing, but getting in the way of the T-bone was horribly unrealistic... That lambo would have been toast.

And I didn't catch the part about the Joker giving the wrong addresses. And now that I think of it, if that were the case, I do not know why he didn't explain himself to Dent... Seems foolish not to.

I still don't like that he had to take the heat for Two Face's murders... I mean, they could have come up with all KINDS of explanations for those deaths... not the Black Knight doing it... that was pretty shaky.. I mean these cops are all half corrupt... they are good at that shit.

IIRC, Aaron Eckhart is signed on for another movie. That doesn't directly answer the question, but the potential is there.

This is my take on it.

Joker is a sick fuck. He didn't tell Harvey because the whole plan in the hospital was to turn Harvey into a crazy mother fucker, just like he is. To Harvey it seems Batman chose him and not Rachel to save which was what Joker wanted.

Batman took the wrap because Harvey was all the city had left to save them. Notice how they called Harvey Gotham's White Knight. If the city was told about the murders their White Knight has done then the people of the city would have lost all hope. Batman knew to save the city he had to take the blame. Remember that it was Batman's own idea to take the blame for it, no one elses.

I could be wrong since it's been like a month since I've seen it.

Johnny Depp as Riddler?

Speculation, but I think he could pull it off.

They're also speculating Cher as Catwoman. If that is in fact true, I will never see Batman 3.

daayou
09-03-2008, 04:09 AM
Cher as catwoman? WTF - she will be 102 before filming is done.

My first thought for a good catwoman was Scarlet, then I guess I was tainted by Lee Merriweather and felt that the role should go to a brunette. A good catwoman - Milla Jovovich. She has the body for it.

Bonzo
09-03-2008, 10:30 AM
Ugh, Milla is a fucking pig and a horrible actress. Please god, no.

Now Scarlett on the other hand, I would pay to see in a catwoman outfit.

Keep in mind there was a collective "WTF" when Heath Ledger was picked as the Joker. Look what happened.

I guess the difference is that he has acting talent. Cher, not so much.

I think Nolan might be going for the old cougar type role. We shall see.

Only parts of her. The majority of her body/face is probably underage.

My vote goes to Jolie. It's an obvious one but I think it would work pretty well.

daayou
09-03-2008, 01:39 PM
How do you envision catwoman?

For me, it is about facial looks and body type. I can see her with Cher's body type. Long, lean and lanky. I have problems seeing a 'blonde' cat. That is why I thought that Scarlett would not be that great. Milla has that long and lanky look. Hmm, this sounds odd, but Ali Larter even though she is a blonde could pull the look off.

But Kags is correct - parts of Cher would be 102 and parts would be underage. I wonder who has had more plastic surgery.

Cher
Joan Rivers
Dolly Parton
Demi Moore

That would be a fun trivia question.

maxom
09-03-2008, 01:55 PM
Well, Demi Moore actually looks pretty damn good. I can't say that for the rest of them. My guess would be Dolly.

I really hope they stay away from a blonde Catwoman. The first time they did it wasn't bad but wasn't all that good either.

They should get Halle Berry, if they want the movie to be an epic fail that is.

For the third one they have to have your typical "leader" type villain in it accompanied by a "assistant" type villain. That is how every batman movie has been.

Riddler is not a leader type, he is an assistant. Same as catwoman. The penguin or freeze could easily pull off the leader role.

I think the original plan was to bring the joker back, hence why you don't see him die. Also with Aaron Eckhart signed on for a third and no actual dead body scene. (yea he was laying there, but batman was able to get up so could of as well)

As for someone else playing the role of joker, there's really only one person I could see that could play the role as good AND as demented as heath, and that's Daniel Day Lewis.

I think philip seymour hoffman could play an intriguing penguin. I have a feeling they go with a remake of the original 2nd movie and do penguin/catwoman. There has to be a female element in the movie a la "bond girls".

As for two-face, they could put him on the back burner for this one and bring him back in the 4th.

Daniel Day Lewis would be a fantastic Joker. If they have Joker in the third movie I request a new assistant (nothing against Two-face, he is more of a leader imo) Harlequin. Plus with Dent already established, this could be a nice little twist. Downside to it tho, is the possibility of Robin appearing and fuck that.

Think I read somewhere that Christian Bale said "If Robin crops up in one of the new Batman films, I'll be chaining myself up somewhere and refusing to go to work."

So no Robin as long as Christian Bale is Batman!

Also I'd rather have an actress who can act then Megan Fox as hot as she is. (Mind you all I've seen with her is Transformers, which she was uhhh not particularly great in imo)

maxom

I have no idea what the movie is about, but supposedly she is really good in the movie "How to Lose Friends & Alienate People". Though I like the scarlet idea for catwoman, she can always dye her hair, though I could see catwoman as a "losing-it mentally" blond.

Shikaku

And Michael Bay films are chalk full of acting...

Scarlett would be nice as Catwoman don't get me wrong. The only problem is she doesn't really fit the body type I'd expect for Catwoman. The only movie where she came close to this imo was The Island.

Did anyone else get the bluray? I got 2 digital copy codes, is that normal? My copy came today and it's actually 3 discs: the movie, special features and then the digital copy dvd.

I was just watching the focus points and it must have been 30-45 minutes long itself and it's not even on the special features disc. I want to watch all the special features tonight but i haven't gotten any homework done since i watched the movie again.

Anyways, i preordered it from Amazon for $23.95 which i think is a great deal for everything you get and i recommend anyone who hasn't seen the movie or just really enjoyed the movie to get it now!

I really like the digital copies. Get Smart came with it and you could either get it via amazon or itunes. I ended up getting it through itunes so I didn't have to convert it to play on my ipod.

I need to pick it up sometime next week once I have time to watch it. If I had it in my house then I wouldn't get much work done.

Anyone going to see it in the theater once they re-release it? If the imax showings aren't sold out like they were when it first came out I'm going to take my cousin to see it. She hasn't seen it at all yet.
