This is a two parter as I have a lot on my mind.

Grinder #1
So I went to an Alexisonfire concert last night (A sort of screamo punk band for those of you who don't know). This concert was all ages, which is for the most part fine as I was a kid once too. At this concert, however, there are so many retard kids who think they are emo and think it's cool to go into a mosh pit swinging their fists everywhere. Now I wasn't moshing or anything, I was just standing by my buddy as he has a broken hand. Thinking I am going to be fine standing a good 5 feet back from this pit, some retard kid runs into our side swinging fists. Catching me off guard, he clocks me a good one right in the nose. I didn't see the kid coming, nor did I see who he was when he left. What can I do? Simply yell obscenities and go to the bathroom to clean my face off. So if you are at a concert, don't be a dick.

Grinder #2
I'm sure many of you have experience with this. Professors who CAN'T speak english, or teach for that matter. Do students a favor and don't try. Failing accounting midterm ftl.

Sorry, a lot of venting to do. =P

Tart, as sad as #1 is to happen to you, it makes me laugh. Because those silly little emo kids always make me laugh.

I can agree with #2. I hate when you are paying for courses, yet you cannot understand the professor and you get less out of the course than you should. I don't fail the classes though. You are probably failing cause Dawnstrider sucks compared to Innervater.

I can totally understand about number 2. I am forced into taking a course with a teacher that is hard as hell to understand and she is an awful teacher. I do better *not* listening to her during class but reading the chapters in the book and trying to figure it out myself with people in my class. (its a data structures class)

I took a physics course where the teacher was 50/50 Russian and Chinese, and grew up speaking both languages and learned english as a third......talk aobut fucking hard to understand.

I was at a Korn concert several years ago, and I was on the rail at the front and about halfway through the set I get hit in the head with a shoe. I take the shoe and throw it as far back into the crowd as I could. About 5 minutes later during "Blind" I get hit in the head with something else... it was the same damn shoe. What are the odds?

Bert did one of my old Data Struct professors move down to your school? The exact same thing happened to me.

Mmmm it is the 3rd. That is true. Perhaps it is the lack of sleep or overall rage build up from that accounting class.

Mod, stop trying to compare your level 55 druid with my epic'd druid. Miro and others can vouche... Dawnstrider > Inner-whatever his name is

You are excused for forgetting the date. College kids are not supposed to know the date. Also, why are you even awake? You should:

A) Be napping
B) Still be asleep cause you skipped your morning classes.

I have an excuse cause I'm on co-op. :-P

Oh and Innervater is female, and super hotness.

You better have yelled "DING 60!!!" repeatedly.

Whoah, Tart I was at Alexis too. I was definatly in the pits though. I'm not to big (5'10 ~ 130 lbs). I would jump in there elbows infront of my face and run as fast as I could and jump into the biggest person in the pit and just bounce off. They would promptly throw me to the other side :)

Good show eh?

Naw, my friend left the concert wearing the lead screamers left shoe though. People kept throwing shoes around and he(singer) got mad so he threw his shoe at the audience and my friend caught it.

Yeah Trist that was a sweet show. I didn't like the openers really at all. Attack in Black was pretty good but I didn't care for the others.

If I find out that was you who punched me... we may have to duel... IN RL!

Big O(No speaka Engrish) = Bret Fails!

As for the first Id have found that kid or any similar looking substitute and hospitalized him, or killed him and just walked away. Someone had to pay.

As for the latter it helps if they speak English but I usually learn way better from reading the books, might just be a person to person thing though.

I've only had 2 teacher that couldn't speak english. One for a math class and the other was for astronomy. The math class I think I got a D(average grade in the class was C) but then again I'm horrible at math. My astro class had 300+ kids in it so I just sat in the back and slept or played street fight on my SP. Got a C in that class and the only studying I did was having the discovery channel on during space week while playing FFXI.

Horrible teachers are why we have curve grading.

Anyway, I can learn from a book, but I prefer to learn by discussing the book.

This town has its claws
Buried in my neck
This town it takes lives
Without mercy
Without hate

The streets are in distress
The sun sufficates behind darkened skies

The grass is growing
On top of my feet
I'm sinking
Won't be long
Before i'm too deep too run

It looks pretty emo... <3 that song though

Not so much, while I don't really mind Alexisonfire they're not a hardcore band, and the fact that you defined hardcore as somewhere between screamo and punk makes me sad. Hardcore is the more aggressive derivative of punk rock when it split during the '80s, bands like Minor Threat and Black Flag. It's pretty much what happened when the punk guys figured out that there was a gain nob on their amp and if they turned it all the way to the right they got a ton of distortion in their sound. The other half of punk got more emotional, basically started writing punk rock love songs, and with that you got Emotional Hardcore which is what Emo started from, bands like Fugazi and Rites of Spring, Sunny Day Real Estate. The emo guys slowly descended into the crap that current emo is and then you got bands like Alexisonfire (really more of a screamo band than anything) who came out turned up their gain some, started screaming their vocals, and tried getting a little closer to the sounds that started the whole emo side of the punk genre.

But I'm rambling on about the history of punk so I'll stop now.

Now for the whole reason I was going to post in the first place.

#2 I'm going to assume you go to the U of A as you're from the Edmonton area and are talking about Prof's I don't know for sure if this applies to the Grant MacEwan and NAIT. Basically if you want to work at a University under Tenure to do you research etc, it is a condition of that tenure that you must teach some Undergrad classes, it's a bit better in the Arts department as alot of their research can be applied to their teachings (English Prof's can pick the works the students study to match their own interests, etc) but in Science, Undergrad classes are basically a chore that keeps a prof from doing the research that they're at the University to do. Because alot of the experts who are brought to the University to do research on a tenure happen to not be native english speakers, the undergrads end up having prof's who can't speak english....and you know what? The university doesn't really give two shits, undergrad is basically a revenue supply and a recruitment ground for what the university is actually there for, to do research. Now I'm not saying this is fair to the undergrads but it's the way it works and it's why your prof's don't seem to care much, aren't good teachers, and can't speak english.

Although I go to Grant Macewan, that is a very interesting story indeed. Seems very believable too now that I think about it.

Nice post Adru, I'm no music expert >.< Also, what would you define Alexis as then? Just Alter-Rock?

Ixie:
Every step I take
I leave a small peice
Of myself behind
Soon there will be nothing LEFT!

Favorite stanza on the album :)

Alexisonfire was a pretty basic Screamo band when they started out, they're moving away from that a bit, mixing clean/dirty vocals parts and such, but still they're more or less a Screamo band really.
