Gamestop is taking preorders tomorrow.
they're shipping an ass load so i wouldnt be TOO worried about having to have one pre ordered. If not you'll get it the week later or something, no big deal

Meh, my plan is this.
Phase 1: Collect PS3.
Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit.
Phase 4: Buy Wii with proceeds from Phase 3
PS3 does look good but the price is pure insanity for it. . .

Oh see, I'm not buying a PS3 to own, I'm buying one to Ebay.. If it's anything even remotely like the PS2 launch... I'll double, maybe even triple my money.
Then I can easily afford a Wii.

Id consider that but not only do I not have the money to invest in a PS3 I wouldn't feel like putting in the effort for something I'd feel dirty about later =P

But seriously, I have a hook up at Gamestop, so, when they took pre-orders, I was able to slip mine in the night before :D

Right now I would give my left testicle for a pre-order on a PS3. All of that HD / HDMI output goodness. And I tell you what gets me every time... that damn Metal Gear Solid trailer....

If you haven't seen that yet you need to get the high quality version from Konami's site (I think), and listen to the audio closely... its incredible. You can actually hear Snake's teeth grinding on the gun...
But alas, I think getting a PS3 this year is pretty much out of the questions with the numerous cutbacks Sony has announced in overall delivery figures.
Kernall you will probably make a killing on Ebay.

I wouldn't plan on doing the ebay PS3 thing anymore. You guys should read how sony and ebay are teaming up now to come down on the people that do that anymore.
After the whole fiasco with the Xbox 360 on ebay, ebay plans to never let that type of transaction to happen on their site anymore. Sony is also helping a crap ton with it as well. Let me find the link......
Actaully you can post the auction, as long as you intend to have the unit for delivery within 30 days.....
"Pre-sale listings are those that describe items for sale that are not in the control or possession of the seller at the time of the listing. These listings generally consist of items that are sold in advance of a delivery date to the public.
eBay permits Pre-sale listings only on a limited basis. The seller must guarantee that the item will be available for shipping within 30 days from the date of purchase (i.e., the day the listing ends or the date the item is purchased from a store front listing). The seller must also clearly indicate within the listing the fact that the item is a pre-sale item with a delivery date that indicates the item will be shipped by the 30th day from the end date of the listing. Additionally, this text must be no less than the default font size of the eBay Sell-Your-Item form. Currently, the default font size is HTML font size 3.
Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:
Listing cancellation
Limits on account privileges
Account suspension
Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings

Right, but they are making you show proof of your ability to acquire the item ie. Scan of the reciept.
your reservation reciept does not "Guarantee" your ability to recieve the item within 30 days, which basically stops you from putting the PS3 up before you get it.
A lot of people were putting the auctions up before they got their preorder in and it caused a lot of people to end up with nothing after spending thousands of dollars. That's what they want to stop.

my gamestop had a demo thing, but i didnt see a control, so i asked him when it would be able to be played, and he said 'right now".
me: (Slams hands on counter) O_O
But yea, if you see one in a gamestop you just ask and you give them your ID to hold (the control at my gamestop wasn't tethered so they needed extra security =P)
I got to play excite truck, which i thought wasn't that interesting, but after playing it i thought it was pretty neat. It only took about half lap to get used to the controls (and the fact that like in reality turning in the air doesn't change your trajectory... is that the right word?)
And the wiimote is smaller than i thought it was gonna be =O pretty comfortable
