My list would be veeeeeeeeeeery long.

So I will list a few that were good and bad.

Worst concert hands down - The Pretenders - I fell asleep during it. Damn close was Brittney Spears - I got hoodwinked into this, our daughter was 7 at the time. Bitch lip synced, played for 50 minutes and changed outfits 5 times.

Ottmar Liebart opening for Basia was a pleasant surprise. Garbage was great. Pet Shop Boys were fun as hell to watch even though I was probably the only straight guy. Devo in 1980 was great. The B-52s were great. The Dead Kennedys in 1982 were great.

No,

A guy my mom used to date raced sailboats. He raced them with a guy named Arhtur Godfrey. Arthur had a son named Ted who owned a record store called Open Books and Records. I had met Ted when I was 6 or so. We would see each other at the races. I didn't see him past 7. When I was 14 I found out about this record store and started to go there. It was a hole in the wall place. Hell my house has more sq. ft. than it did. I walked in and stared at him like I knew him. He did the same. We ignored it for a bit. I started to go there regulary and we struck up a conversation. One day he mentioned his last name and boom, I remembered where I knew him from. So living in Fort Lauderdale, when DK decided to tour Florida the furthest they came down was Tampa. Tampa is about 260 miles away. Ted being THEE south florida connection for alternative music called me and said he got us 2 backstage passes. He helped promote the gig. So we headed up there, got to hang out before hand, after the show while the press was interviewing them I was in the middle of the band! Afterwords we stayed at some local DJ's house, met the band for breakfast and sent them on their way. The DJ had some work to do with them is why we met.

What sucked was coming back to school, you want to show off and brag. The problem is no one in my school knew who they were at all. They were still jerking off to MTV bullshit with Prince, MJ, Dire Straits.

Rise against next wednesday.

Best show - Brand New

Worst show - Well as much as I like avenged sevenfold, they played a really short set. Metric sucked live too.

Phegan
07-13-2007, 08:48 PM
I heard they are amazing live, but Ozzfest from like 5 years ago. Tool was so insanely boring, they played a small set, I wasn't a fan. It was also out doors and I had been there all day..so I am not disputing Tool being good live, but when I was them, the stars weren't aligned.

Random sampling because I've seen too many to remember them all.

Pearl Jam - Hands down best show I've been to, these guys know how to play music

Tool - Pretty good show, but the vocal mix was off :(

A Perfect Circle - Great Show, but short about 90 minutes total

Fuck, just got a phone call going out for drinks I'll finish this list later.

Serenity
07-13-2007, 10:17 PM
Pearl Jam for sure. Gotta love the home team. Crowd surfing when Even flow was playing was one of my favorite memories.

Tool was pretty amazing, but I was on so much acid I'm honestly not sure how much of the show was special effects.

Smashing pumpkins, not as great. The asian gitaurist got mad at Billy Corgan and walked off the stage, ending it a bit early. The drugs were also not as good.

It's been a while since any bands have impressed me. I'll have to poke my head out to see some more things. I'd kill to see Tiesto, though.

Worse Concerts
3) Aerosmith
2) Bon Jovi - Quality or Quantity? Aerosmith played good, but it was a very short set.. Bon Jovi play a long set, but at one point i though i was on a country concert.
1) KISS - Worse of them all. A Corpse on the drums. The opening band was better. The 3d Show the bring was to cover up how bad they are...

Best concerts
3) Dream Theater - Octavarium Tour - It would had been better if they didnt play the whole new CD.. but it was 3 hours of great music
2) Mana - Amar es Combatir Tour - Wow it have it all.. A great stage, Entrance, Great music, The best drum solo i ever seen, a waterfall in the middle of the stage, FIRE!, confetti..
1) Axl Rose and his cover band aka Guns n Roses - They prolly beat #2 cause 1) i never seen them before, 2) I wasnt even going until 2 days before the concert when i started to look youtube videos and realize this may be good 3) Skid Row and Papa Roach were there too and they also have a great show... But they played all i wanted to hear (Lots of Appetite!!!), although they leave Estranged out which is my fav gnr song 8(

I'd like to go to a concert for Mana. For those of you who have never heard of them, they are like the spanish version of U2.

And since you brought up Bon Jovi I had to share this little gem:

My favorite band to see live are Dropkick Murphys. I've been 4 times already. I go every year for St. Patties Day in Boston. It's a blast. Hometown band baby!

I dunno if you could call it a concert, but I've been to Blue Man Group many many times. It's a blast.

My first concert was Uncle Kracker and Counting Crows. Uncle Kracker was getting boo'd off stage. It was hilarious. Counting Crows were actually quite good.

Mod I know what you mean about Blue Man!

I feel fortunate enough to have seem them play the Astor in NYC before they expanded to the world. My wife and I were part of the show - total noobs that we were!

We also saw them in 2005 at the Astor this time with our daughter. Granted they had expanded to Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, it was still cool to see them in that TINY theater.

The remake of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" with Venus Hum is incredible.

Yeah that's it. They also did the 'Shipping out to Boston' from The Departed.

It's also the song that Jonathan Papelbon enters the game to. I get a gigantic Papelboner everytime he enters the game.

Papelbon + Dropkick Murphys = Win.

Once, against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, while I was at the game, he came out to the Ultimate Warrior Theme song. It never happened again, it was the best music ever, anything else he uses is now spoiled after that.

Perhaps one of the best and worst performers I have ever seen, say them on their Siamese Dream tour and it was great, then the Mellon Collie tour and it was utter crap.

But my hands down favorite show was the Deftones, just after they released Adrenaline. Chino was in the crowd singing more then he was on-stage.

I will go down my list here of favorite concerts:

Deftones - Adrenaline
Tool - Anemia
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile
Red Hot Chili Peppers - BSSM
Pearl Jam - Vitalogy
A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms
Pantera - Vulgar Tour
Stone Temple Pilots - Gift Shop Tour
Reel Big Fish - Sell Out
Smashing Pumpkins - Dream

Christ I could go on for days, I used to have a stack of ticket stubs, but someone burned them all at a party I had one time.

Phegan
07-16-2007, 06:31 PM
Pantera seems very scripted for me. Seems like Phil says the same thing at every show. I was just wishing he would shut up and play instead of making his witty remarks.

Then again, I saw them on the reinventing the steel tour, he was pretty full of himself my then.

Phegan
07-16-2007, 06:34 PM
I actually also saw them on the GSTK tour, maybe even the album before that, but The reinventing the steel one really sticks out in my head as Phil not shutting up.

Your voodoo failed! It was actually the 30th, tonight. In fact I just got home like 15 minutes ago. And I'm not even sure what to say, it was just amazing. They can play and they can put on a show.

This would have been the best concert I'd ever gone to except there was 2 hours of 2 opening bands, one of which sucked hard, and only 2 hours of actual Dream Theater. The 2 hours seemed like 2 minutes though. I could have stood there all night. My voice is hoarse and my hands hurt, but I couldn't believe it when the encore was over.

Makes me even more upset that the 4 hours of pure DT with no opening band 2 years ago got SNOWED OUT. wtf....

We'll see if Rush in a week can beat tonight. I know it's almost blasphemous to say, but it will be hard.

chilindrina
07-31-2007, 02:57 AM
it wasnt 4 hours.. it was more like 2 hours 40 minutes... And they played the whole god damn octavarium cd... They did a freaking Medley of Pull me Under and Metropolis, which pissed me off (I had to hear all their new stuff completely but they gotta shorten their biggest hits 8( )... They did play A Fortune Tells in Lies, which makes my very happy.

So gratz on finally see them.. they worth every penny and more..
What did they play? any setlist?

Did Sting play his electric stand up bass? I grew up playing the string bass and was in awe of that instrument when he started playing it.

Phegan

Nah he just played your standard bass.

Bronyaur

I saw them before Chili, in Denver with Queensryche. Now that was an amazing show.

Let's see how many songs I can remember.

Constant Motion (Systematic Chaos)
Take the Time <- YES I was so glad they played this, it rocked
Endless Sacrifice
I Walk Beside You
Dark Eternal Night (Systematic Chaos)
Pull Me Under
The Spirit Carries On
As I Am
In The Presence of Enemies pt 1 - 5 (Systematic Chaos) <- highlight of the night

Then for the Encore was a medley of a bunch of songs, most of them ending tracks. Trial of Tears was one of them, so at least Falling into Infinity got half a song played. Awake and Six Degrees had nothing, and Octavarium only had the 1 plus some of Octavarium in the medley (same with Scenes from a Memory, what a shame). The nice thing is I really liked Systematic Chaos so I was glad they played a few songs off of it. I'm not sure if that is a complete setlist but I think I remembered them all, and in roughly the right order.

Oh and Jordan came out with this tiny keyboard that he wore like a guitar, so he could come over and battle with JP during the keyboard/guitar duets. How cool is that?
