Will be picking it up today after class.
I don't think it's available? Maybe it is. But anyway, Metacritic is rating it very highly.

Gamespot sucks cock, always has. They gave MP3 a pretty average score for being unoriginal but yet they will give an unoriginal FPS like Halo 3 an 11/10 and cream their panties over it. I have never trusted any of their reviews and I never will.
That said, target and walmart were sold out and this local store said they would have 10 available copies in tomorrow. I have school for the rest of the day so it looks like tomorrow for me.

I generally read GS like this: 7.0-8.5 = 10 on a normal standard. 9.0-10.0 = LOL HYPED FANBOI 13/10, and the only thing that goes there are sports games and xbox games.
Perfect example as to why their site makes no sense, why on earth did THPS3 get a perfect 10/10 when all it was in fact, was a rehash of THPS 1 and 2 with better graphics... It even took a step down in some aspects (such as park editor). Not comparing Halo and Metroid Prime here but they do indeed share something.
Halo 1 and Metroid Prime 1 both scored higher then Halo 2/MP 2 on GS because both of them was the same thing again.
So apparently...
Halo 2 is worse then Halo 1 for being less original
MP 2 is worse then MP1 for being less original
THPS3 is better then THPS 1 and 2 for being the same old stuff.
WOW GAMESPOT'S REVIEWING METHODS PWN!!!!
Btw, editing posts is for pussies Alexi
I thought THPS3 (last one I played) was better than 1 and 2.
And I liked Halo 1 more than Halo2... Halo2 (atleast SP) made me feel like Pirates of the Caribbean 2... just a long trailer for the 3rd.
Overall "scores" dont really mean anything to me, typically what is said in the review/preview is what I will go by. Games dont slip by under the radar anymore.

So I played it for about an hour so far and did the "training area", it's pretty freaking awesome. The cutscenes are really well done, and there's even scenes happening in the backgrounds and stuff while you're in the middle of playing, it's cool.
Visor switching and fighting took me like 5 minutes to get down, it's easy now.
Also, when you start playing go into the menu and try moving around with different sensitivities, I am comfortable with Standard but people that are more accustomed in FPS will probably do well with Advanced. Free Aim Lockon is pretty useful as they throw several enemies at you at once even in the beginning, but I was retarded and for the first few enemies I was aiming slightly to the side forgetting that lock on in this game does not equal your shots locking on =X.
The ship menus and interaction is pretty neat. I was playing around with a computer console in the beginning area for a little bit, you can get some little trivia tidbits =P

I thought THPS3 (last one I played) was better than 1 and 2.
Not disagreeing really, in fact THPS3 was the only one I really bought when it first came out new, and much like yourself the last I ever played.
What I am saying is Gamespot says they will give sequels lower then the first for being less original. Even if said game is better in every way possible (graphics, story, gameplay, controls, etc) if its not original in some way on its own it gets lower. If say Bioshock 2 randomly came out of no where and was the same old fun stuff but with a new story, location, and is longer and less linear (which I hear is a few problems with the current game) they would probably score it lower then the first game.

Gamestops around here are horrific.
They absolutely WILL NOT let you have games the day they come out, they only ever order enough copies for preorders, and it's pretty crappy how they do it too.
;) "Game X just came out today, do you have a copy?"
::rolleyes:: "Did you reserve it?"
;) "No."
::rolleyes:: "Then we don't have any. You should reserve it next time... (rant on how reserving is useful and you can pay it off gradually). Do you want to reserve anything today?"
Keep in mind this is stuff that is mainstream too, that most other stores have at least 30 copies of.
I just try to stay away from them as much as possible now.

What I am a bit confused about is that the lock on feature is not like the previous ones? Here it seems you actually have to aim, but I put my setting on advanced and haven't tried the others, so it could be different. I guess from your experience too the lock on merely identifies targets instead of actually "locking on" to your target.

From what I read its just a target for you to strafe around your target, not actually target them to make it ez mode.

Yeah, but on hard mode the shit is HARD. I almost died to the first boss trying to get used to the controls and thinking that I was doing something wrong by not being able to actually lock on. Oh well, I like it better this way.
Bronyaur
08-28-2007, 11:59 PM
lock on locks your view, not your crosshair, so you still have to aim, but you can strafe around your target and dodge and stuff. It's really nice on bosses actually cause some have multiple spots you need to hit, so you can strafe around the boss and aim at your leisure. BTW you can change that setting LockFreeAim or something like that. If it's off then you will also target whatever you're locked onto.
The first boss was easy. What a noob.
I'm having problems though cause my wrist gets tired having to hold the remote up. The chair I play in is too low to rest my wrist on my knee or anything.

I've been busy so I haven't gotten enough yellow things I think to afford a mii bobblehead =(
Something that I've been wondering for a while now though, do any of you guys know what the hell the lights at the very top of the visor are? You know, the 4 rectangular ones at the top. Whenever I look at it it's something different... 2 blue lights, 1 yellow light, 1 blue light... I thought it was like, a counter to keep track of how many shots you've gone without missing or something, because I only noticed it changing when I missed a shot =X
I could figure out all of the extra little unmarked visor meters in the other games, but this just eludes me ><
Bronyaur
09-02-2007, 03:40 AM
lol i've noticed those but it's always one yellow for me.
Of course I am a pretty bad shot with the wii remote. The boss after the 2nd generator on norion was a real pain, well for reasons I won't say, it was harder to aim in that fight! Cool fight though, just took me forever cause I kept missing. I keep considering putting on the lock on target and not just lock with free look, but that seems too wimpy.
Oh and me hitting anything but stationary doors with the missiles will be a miracle. If my aim wasn't enough, it always gets messed up by having to press something above A, cause my whole hand has to shift. I wish you could do some combiation like... well I can't really think of one. :( But regardless, unless I know I have to use missiles I doubt I will ever use them, cause I can't shoot them on the fly and expect to hit anything.

Missiles home in on whatever you're locked on, and I find it's better to just lock on on whatever you are trying to hit with them because enemies in this game like to sidestep your shots and stuff ><
Or you might just be hitting too small/quick of an enemy for a non-locked on missile to be useful >.>
Either way I mostly use them when I want to get rid of a specific thing ASAP so I can afford to lock onto it.

I finally got to dig into this last night. I was previously playing on standard S-Video and I was not impressed at all. I switched over to Component, and it was like night and day.
I am currently playing on Veteran, and it's quite hard. It's actually enjoyable to get my ass kicked. The game is way more story driven, and moving more into Halo's territory in terms of story telling.
I was struggling getting used to the Wii controls, but now it's awesome. I really like how they've implemented the controls. I had said in the past that as soon as Nintendo brings out an FPS, it would show other Wii developers how FPS games should be made on the Wii. They will now copy Prime 3, and that's a good thing.
So far so good. The only downside, is that my wrist hurts and it's an intense game. My wrist hurts due to how tense I am during certain fights.

Mine hurt a little bit at first too, but I'm about 14 hours in now and it doesn't bother me anymore. I'm very happy I chose to play on veteran because it feels perfect this way.
I think this game has better level design than prime 1 did. Combat is also a lot more fun with hypermode and ship airstrikes >:). I've been playing it a lot over the past few days and I'm almost at the end, but I don't want to beat it too fast because I have nothing else to play. Once you get farther and unlock more ship landing zones theres a lot more freedom to roam around and find upgrades you couldn't get to before.
The graphics are really nice for a wii game, but you can notice some odd-looking things that were probably too much for the hardware. It is not a problem for me really, as I easily have the worst video card out of anyone on this forum; I have never been much of a graphics whore, but the game is still pretty to look at. All in all, I like the game more than Prime 1 - which says a lot about the game. It is the perfect mix of Zelda gameplay and FPS, which doesn't get any better for me.

I might be done with the game. The second seed boss is the most annoying boss I've ever fought, in zelda or metroid. Seriously I may be being dramatic here but wow, never before have I been so disgusted.
Boss fights in this game are fucking great since you can't just blast them to fuck. You have to actually conserve your health for hypermode. The first time I faught the first guy that was corrupted, I didn't even use hypermode and was getting so pissed at the game.
This game is also great for the fact that I just got done playing Bioshock. FOr being such a great game, Bioshock was incredibly easy due to the fact of Vita Chambers, even on hard. Metroid I'm playing on normal first time through and it's not hard at all, but it is definitely harder than Bioshock was.

ok so I may have overreacted a bit. But honestly, you have to hear this.
So I get to this guy and you have to use missles on him at one stage right? But every time I would use missles the targets would phase out, even if I waited til they phased in and released. I ended up using 45 (!!!) out of 90 missles and couldn't pull him out of that phase, thus doing 0 total HP damage. Half my missles and 0 damage? Yeah...
I played again last night after cooling off and, by accident, found a way to hit every time. It was pretty easy after that, thank goodness. But seriously, what kind of DUMB boss design has targets that phase in and out but that require tons of limited ammo to take out? I'm all for hard, but my idea of fun hard isn't "haha, as soon as you fire your targets will just disappear every time!".

ok so I may have overreacted a bit.
No, you were just doing it wrong the whole time. You have a certain amount of time to lock on to all 5 with seeker missles. If you aren't quick enough, tough shit.
I'm not bragging, I just didn't feel like there was anything wrong with it.

No man you don't understand, it's not like I hobble around missing my locks. Oops they phased out again.
It's more like, I would have the gun charged while they were phased out, then as SOON as they would phase back in I would lock and fire in like less than a second, and they would phase out again. It was just hilarious.
There was nothing I did faster the time I beat him, I just learned if you target them right after he does a roll you can get them before they phase out. Otherwise it is a joke. Or maybe I was just incredibly unlucky. I guess it may seem like I'm just horrible at the game cause I don't play on Veteran, but I'm not that bad you know.

I didn't say that, but for you to almost quit playing the game over it is ridiculous, lol.

well I did mention I was overreacting and being dramatic. :)
K but seriously, I will have to tell you about this on vent. I can't really describe it in detail without spoiling stuff. It was outrageous though. I never wanted to fight that boss again, and you can't play if you don't!

Hey at least you weren't like me and what I did on the first seed boss.
(Scan the boss's feet)
The phazon armor around its feet can be destroyed with a nearby explosive blast.
(Thinks for a second)
ADUURRRR HURRRR I GOTTA SHOOT MISSILES NEAR ITS FEET
It took me like 5 minutes of aiming missles slightly away from his feet to remember that the Morph Ball Bombs existed.

Wait for what you wimp? You're nearing the end of the game and the bobblehead is only viewable in game. Not to mention the screenshot tool, which is pretty fun.
You still haven't posted your friend code anyway.
P.S. Est, did those screenshots get sent to you? I never got a confirmation when I hit send.

Estellios

I think you need a SD card to transfer saves, I got one for like 12 dollars with decent amount of space so its nothing too big.
And yea I got your screenshots Dyer, I sent you a reply =P
