Finally got around to reading this book about twenty years after I had first found out about it. Damn i'm lazy! Late as it is, this does make for one less Essential Classic that I have not read.

The book is a Sci-Fi novel, a first-person account of a soldier that because of time dilation is present for both the first and the last battle of a thousand year war.

It was written almost forty years ago, and it's pretty remarkable in that the Science part of it holds up quite well after all this time. Sci-fi books begin to sound outdated quickly unless cleverly written. I have many observations to make but I shall refrain and let the work speak for itself.
