SC2 Beta Tournament #1: May Open

So, seeing as it's the end of April, this would be the perfect time to get in entries for the first May tournament.

I've had experience before running tournaments (namely GGAC), and this should be even easier with the use of replays. I will post the bracket in a visually easy to understand format once we have entrants confirmed.

Been surfing the pro level sites, and it looks like I've found a set of rules that seem to be the norm for RTS tournaments.

Rules

01. All games MUST be played on the US (North American) server.
02. Round of 16 and Round of 8 games may be played whenever most convenient for both players, but games must be played WITHIN the allotted time period for each round. (date frame to be determined)
03. You are expected to be reachable for a reasonable amount of time during each play period. If you cannot be reached for an extended period of time and do not show up to your games YOU WILL BE REPLACED OR FORFEIT YOUR MATCH.
04. Round of 4 and Finals games will be broadcast live at a set time, negotiated between all involved. (we'll work out a way to stream this to the members of Rar who don't have a copy of the beta if we can. Else, we can just forget this)
05. Winning players must post the replay onto the Rar shared drive in a folder which will be set up for this purpose (\beta_tourney\may for example)
06. Players may NOT livestream their games as they are playing. However, observing is allowed as long as observers do not give away anything over vent or in-game chat.
07. Chat is allowed in game. However, any excessive abuse and/or spam in game will be taken very seriously. (hah, fuck that)
08. Disconnects are an automatic loss for that player. If a game is so one sided that it was obvious who was going to win, a judgment call will be made. (judgement by observers if present, if not by your peers)
09. All games are played regardless of patches.
10. You must determine your race upon entry, and you will be locked to said race. Random is allowed as a race.
11. Entrants are limited to those on the Rar forums. That means post your fucking contact info in the appropriate thread.
12. This will be a standard tournament. No race limitations, no unit limitations. Anything that isn't a clear exploit of the game is legal.
13. Single Elimination brackets will be in play. One set of losses, and you are out.

Notes

As suggested in the thread below, map changes will be allowed. The loser of the current match will be able to choose the next map (Twilight Fortress and Coalition exempt). This will go back and forth until the match of 3 (5 for finals) is decided.

Monster trucks are banned, and will not be available for play in this tournament.

A map format I've seen is: First match is always (X) map, loser of the first match picks second map, and if it goes to 3, the loser of the second match picks the last map.
This way the organizers (Kag) only need to pick 1 map, the rest is up to the people in the tournament.

Amazon's email with the beta key said may 17th was end of beta, but I don't know how much water that holds.

I am interested, but I am going to europe from may 16 to 29, so I need to know what timeframe this will be before entering (especially if registration lasts until may 7). Like one round a day? 3 days? Just in case I get past the first round. Sure thing if I play against Bret.

Also a lot of the tournies I've watched have been like what Tao posted.

I'm not opposed to that map idea. Less work for me.

Also the tourney will go at whatever speed we can let it go at. If registration closes on the 7th and everyone decides to do their first round matches right away and post replays, we can start on the second round. Hell, even if some people don't do their first round stuff right away, we can get started on those who are ready for the second round. The beauty of this kind of tournament is it can be over in a day, or over 2 weeks.

I'm not opposed to people just burning the fuck out of the first round matches if they want to.

Those rules were stolen from a TeamLiquid invitational, where there is a max of 16 players. I think they just incorrectly worded round 1, as that round should involve all 16 players.

And yeah, Tao is a full slanty eyed mofo as well.

Another note: this tournament will be single elimination. If it turns out that this all gets done in a quick and timely manner, the next will be double elimination.

That'd make the next tournament 8 teams (at least), which gives us quarter finals, semi finals, and finals.
